Initially the idea was to find a home for our bakery operations, which had somewhat outgrown the original Smithfield restaurant, which would include a simple food offering and possible wine shop.
As plans for the former bank developed, and as people expressed interest, it became apparent that there was a desire for a restaurant and so the Commercial Street premises became the dining room, wine and bakery shop it now is.
Bread and Wine reflects the rhythms of its locale, opening for breakfast, lunch and supper seven days a week (see reservations for our full opening hours). Whilst observing the same respect for seasonal, indigenous ingredients and "the whole beast" as the bigger sister restaurant. It very much beats its own drum with a menu structured towards a slightly less formal manner of dining, with guests actively encouraged to share dishes as they're ready from the kitchen.

St. JOHN BREAD and Wine is located across the road from Spitalfields Market, around a five minute walk from Liverpool Street Station on the circle, central, district and hammersmith and city lines.
Parking along Commercial Street is limited. There are some parking bays directly outside the restaurant but these are only for limited stays and it's worth noting that the parking wardens are very studiuos about their work.
NCP car parks are located closer to Liverpool Street and there is further metered parking in in Fournier and Brushfield Street.
